Coming to you live from a teacher training in fabulous Toronto! By Amy Williams
Francisco has been refining "who" we teach yoga to. He's suggesting that we teach to the Nature behind the personality. As budding yoga teachers he is advising us to stop teaching to the ‘ego’ of the student and instead teach to the higher order of their Nature. Upon reflection I recognize this; it requires the teacher to first place her/his focus from the outer realm of form (ego) to the inner realm (Nature). This shift reminds me of the old adage, "Teach to learn". In order to teach in such a way we as teachers have to be connected to our inner nature both to check our ego and have a level of understanding of the method to give them the resonance (akin to a road map) into that deeper part of themselves to make real change.
As changes occur in the body, there are always other things that are affected and disorganized. This is a normal part of the process, but it comes with new sensations and it's easy for anyone to identify them as problems. Francisco encouraged us to consider that there are no problems, just ever changing forces. With this shift in perspective we can see yoga occurs through Universal forces and not through the personal ego. The more personal effort we make, in life or on the mat, the more problems we can create. It helps me to know this process takes years.
May we all recognize we have the power to change how we see and the power to change who we are. May we use that power to rise above the world of form and explore our Infinite potential. May we move ourselves into a position of more understanding and take our power back. Great Cosmic Mother of Nature, Prakriti, support us in our surrendering process so that we may let go to that awareness and discover a Higher Cosmic Order.
