Yep, this felt really really good. Now I know that a faceplant is not something that people usually look forward to. It's not something that you tend to enter into voluntarily. Nor with great care in following the detailed instruction you've been given on how to do a great one!
But Kaiut Yoga changed all that for me.
This pose is all about the neck. And my neck and I have never been good friends. I have invested in and experimented with many pillows and side sleeping positions over the years to try to make the best of things. My neck stiffness might have something to do with a neck injury from when I was 3 years old living in South Africa. Or it may have a lot to do with the fact that I have spent much of the last 10 years or so falling asleep on planes and doing the proverbial head bop. Or perhaps its all the time I spend in front of my Mac. Likely, its a combination of all three.
So when Francisco demonstrated this pose for us I have to admit I wasn't all that enthusiastic. I have always had trouble turning my neck to the right. And in this position, your neck is seriously turned to the right. At first, my neck was screaming at me - "What are you doing?! You know we don't do this!" And it was pretty persistent with the yelling but eventually got a little hoarse. I can't say after doing this just once and holding if for 3 minutes or so my neck blockage released but I could certainly feel it easing.
And interestingly when Francisco said to switch to the other side, I did so with regret. This will be a pose I try to do every day. I can already hear my neck thanking me.
